My role as a swimming coach involves designing, planning and coaching all age ranges from babies to adults of all standards (from complete beginners to competitive swimmers). My key aim is to ensure swimmers develop the valuable life skill of being a competent swimmer. I ensure relentless focus is placed on safety and making clients water aware. I create bespoke class plans, tailored to the capabilities of individual swimmers. I work with my fellow coaches and management team to finalise and agree implementation plans with clearly defined roles and responsibilities to ensure optimum progress for the clients in a safe environment. Through clear and effective communication with stakeholders, I monitor, motivate and mentor individuals who typically perform at differing rates of time. My role involves initiating new ideas for both lesson and swimmer development. Since the COVID pandemic began, I have evolved in adapting children’s classes to be COVID compliant with all Swim Ireland regulations.
My role as business and process improvement advisor primarily focuses on building a social media platform and advising on planning and execution of policies and procedures to ensure COVID compliance to ensure staff and customer safety. It was my duty to support the management in developing and managing customer and staff communications upon reopening from lockdown.
During my time in DLR I was promoted through the ranks of camp attendant, lifeguard, swimming instructor and multi-sports camp coordinator, while also being trusted onto reception duty. Working in a culturally diverse workforce, my role included liaising with a range of stakeholders from coaches (soccer, swimming, basketball etc) to administrators, to management to develop and finalise camp timetables, numbers, coach allocation etc. I worked closely with the management team to set targets and support marketing initiatives to enrol children and meet enrolment goals. I successfully led a team of 10 camp staff, reaching our maximum capacity of 60 children per week consistently for the duration of my time in the role. I coached various age groups and abilities; toddlers up to and including adults. As camp co-ordinator, I was responsible for scheduling and implementing camps and achieving targets, administrating, online bookings and promotion of the camps. As a reliable, well-educated member of staff with strong interpersonal skills, I was trusted to cover receptionist regularly. I sold various types of memberships and swimming equipment to leisure facility users in person and over the phone, to fit their specific needs and requirements for over four years. I constantly analysed swimmers and lesson development plans. I informed customers/ parents of the individuals’ progress/ areas for improvement.
