Vacation employment while at University. I was tasked with providing non-administrative assistance to the Legal Claims Officer and the NHS Central Legal Office (CLO). Duties involved carrying out inquiries into the circumstances of individual cases and relaying information to CLO solicitors. I was granted a high degree of autonomy, being entrusted to contact department heads, witnesses, medical professionals, and external bodies, as a representative of NHS Tayside. I worked on a large quantity of both clinical and non-clinical (predominantly personal injury), cases, dealing with legal principles such as causation, negligence and damages. I was deemed proficient enough to handle many of these cases in the absence of the Legal Claims Officer.
One week shadowing. I assisted in research on behalf of clients and was permitted to conduct some face-to-face interviews with clients. I also shadowed the solicitors as they represented clients at Sheriff Court hearings.
