About

I was born at a rainy October night 1995 in a suburb of Frankfurt. Until the age of ten, I managed to develop a healthy Pokémon card addiction which trained my memory and taught me how to properly organise things. My parents dealt with that by moving to countryside in northern Bavaria, where nobody ever heard of Pokémon cards…. Having nothing left do but studying, I finished my A-levels in 2014 and moved to Erlangen in order to learn more about chemistry. After figuring out that my clumsy hands are actually quite skilled in a synthetic lab environment, I focused on that and searched for a studying group which would help me with theoretical chemistry. This task was fulfilled successfully and resulted in my bachelor’s degree in 2017. But the joy didn’t last long after figuring out that nobody of my studying group wanted to continue in Erlangen…. Heartbroken, I fought my way through my master’s degree and distracted myself with the vivid nightlife and the sights of London, where I did a semester abroad. After returning to Erlangen, I finished my Master thesis in 2019 and started a PhD in the group of Prof. Andreas Hirsch. Since then, I’m working on early-stage development/synthesis of novel dyes (Nanographenes/Hexabenzocoronenes) and photoswitches (Diazobenzenes). This includes planning and improvement of synthetic procedures, as well as analysis and separation of complex organic mixtures – a task which can be very demanding but luckily also very colourful. I will propably defend my PhD-thesis in winter 2024. I followed the call of the mountain in early 2023 and joined Merck/Sigma Aldrich as a R&D Scientist in beautiful Buchs, Switzerland. Here, I'm responsible for the synthesis (planning and execution), purification and sourcing of pharmaceutical reference materials. My responsibilities include the training of new chemical laboratory assistants as certified chemical apprentice trainer, as well as OPEX improvments (Blue Belt). Recently, I improved my leadership skills by completing the Merck Supervisor Academy and the Empower Yourself Course.
