I am a self-taught programmer and problem solver with a passion for technology. I relish any opportunity to innovate and push the limits of what is possible. During my free time, I like to teach, hike, seek out delicious foods, and work on self-improvement. I am a fan of the "work hard, play hard" philosophy.
- Worked on projects across multiple business units: Ads & Sponsorships - This was my first assignment in the TripAdvisor application stack. I updated backend services to deliver new data signals for ads to appear on the map frontend. Social Feeds - This was the biggest project I was involved in during my tenure at TripAdvisor. We built out a massive new “social” feature from scratch on top of existing infrastructure using microservices and GraphQL. Notifications - The goal of this project was to refresh and reimagine the existing notification system. I built out some new, more intelligent alerts and rewrote CRON jobs to run more efficiently. Email Personalization (with third party integration) - This was an effort to deliver a better email experience to our users by personalizing content. I helped integrate third party vendors into the company’s email pipeline. - Led efforts in TripAdvisor’s charity arm to initiate new volunteer opportunities for employees
- Built an application stack from the ground up using Scala running on Play! Framework - Designed and implemented multi-layer services that supported a RESTful API for web and mobile apps, which included an activity feed that was similar to Facebook’s social feed > Leveraged ActiveMQ for data updates > Built lightweight data services using a data enrichment architecture - Managed services deployed on AWS - Delivered brand-new, innovative feature sets under extremely tight deadlines
- Developed multiple iterations of SecondMarket’s secondary market trading platform > Version 1.0 introduced social media elements, which allowed users to connect with each other and “watch” their favorite companies > Version 2.0 added more trading support and data accessibility - Built an internal CRM application - Built an “Ecosystem” app feature focused on providing visibility and distributing content for partner companies - Worked with a wide variety of technologies throughout the application (full stack) > Java, Scala, Javascript, JQuery, Lift, Spring, GWT, Postgres, MongoDB, and Solr - Integrated content from third-party APIs such as LinkedIn and Google - Built a shopping cart (backend only) - Trained and certified in Agile methodologies
- Built a Java-based, event-driven alert system responsible for monitoring and reporting network latency across trading message streams > This application parsed and analyzed messages from various points along the data pipeline, calculated the latency, and rendered the results in a user friendly interface - Utilized GWT and GWT-EXT to produce rich UI components which included: A Real-Time Alert Viewer - This component subscribes to and renders real-time alarm messages, showing overall system health as well as per-message detail. Alarms are fully customizable by the user, who has granular control over how and when each alarm fires. A Packet Capture Playback Controller - This module allows users to upload “pcap” files to the server and “plays” them for latency measurement and analysis. It serves as an offline alternative to live data feeds. The key feature of this component lies in its ability to execute any command on the server at run-time. A Topology Viewer - This component renders network topology using a mind-map populated with real-time data. It acts not only as a visualization of current system state, but also as a portal to other parts of the main application.
- Built the company’s public sound archive > This portal allowed users to listen to 15,000+ songs online with comprehensive search and browse capabilities - Wrote stored procedures/ah-hoc SQL, generated reports using Crystal Reports, migrated data across platforms, and cleaned up data anomalies/redundancies - Led a team of three consultants to develop a Google Map based program known as the “Geo Archive” > This standalone application allows users to listen to songs from the archive using a fun and innovative map interface - Managed a team of consultants to develop an in-house CRM - Trained and supervised interns to perform QA duties - Performed sysops and IT duties > Configured firewalls, generated log reports, deployed applications, and managed database content
