John Howard is an independent non-executive director and chairperson of CFC Group Limited, independent non-executive director and chairman of Compre Group Holdings Limited, independent non-executive director of Everest Group, Ltd., and vice chairman of CRC Group. He previously served as chairman and chief executive officer of Truist Insurance Holdings. During his 20+ year tenure, John led the transformation of the company from BISYS...to Crump Group...to BB&T Insurance Holdings...to Truist Insurance Holdings...to CRC Group. Additionally, he served as a senior executive of Truist Financial Corporation and BB&T Corporation. A respected insurance industry veteran with more than 35 years of leadership experience, John began his career on active duty in the U.S. Navy and held executive positions at GE Capital, Conseco, and Prudential. John currently serves the insurance industry as board chair for the Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers. He is a prior board chair of The Institutes, The American College of Financial Services, and Gill St. Bernard's School. John also served as a member of the Insurance Policy Advisory Committee of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and as an overseer of the Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance, and Actuarial Science at St. John's University. John is a recipient of the Hall of Fame award from the Tri-County Scholarship Fund, the Lindabury-Thomas Trustee award from Gill St. Bernard's School, M&A Transaction of the Year from Insurance Insider (U.S.), Wholesale Broker of the Year from Reactions Magazine, and the Everest award from GE Financial Assurance. John earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Columbia University and an MBA from Duke University.
Piloted $15.5B leveraged buyout of Truist Insurance Holdings from Truist Financial Corporation to create TIH. Secured $8B of debt financing and $8B of equity from financial sponsors and co-investors. Completed operational separation from Truist Financial Corporation. Conducted business portfolio review. Sold retail insurance business (McGriff) for $7.75B. Established two innovative capacity sidecars for Starwind and AmRisc. Implemented new equity program and revised annual incentive plans.
