• Extensive design experience in products using a wide range of high-volume manufacturing processes: plastic injection molding (all types of materials), blow molding (PP), metal die casting (Al, Mg, Zn), sheet metal stamping (steel & non-ferrous), powdered metal, MIM, fineblanking, spring/wire forming, bearings (ball, needle, thrust, sintered/PM), cold heading, heat treatment processes (through hardening, case hardening, sinter hardening), secondary operations (turning, machining, grinding, shot peening, oil impregnation), finishing operations (paint, E-coating, plating, oxides, steam treatment, tumbling). Also experienced in leading & guiding less experienced engineers in the above. • Bring in-depth understanding of customers’ wants/needs/requirements (CTQ’s) across a range of products, and practical application experience in meeting those requirements. • Experienced in working with cross-functional teams – both on-site and globally, and working with external/sourced suppliers (from individual component, through complete sub-assembly suppliers, to finished working unit suppliers/contract manufacturers) to deliver project successfully to the customer. • Experienced in developing the most cost-effective designs through Design to Value and similar concepts to meet established product requirements for cost, quality and speed to market. • Prior experience (3 years) in U.S. manufacturing facility as mature product design support (responsible for warranty improvement, cost reduction, and ongoing production support). • Previous program manager experience (7+ years) contributes to understanding and accommodating the impact that the product design process has on, and how it fits with, the overall project schedule demands (speed, quality & cost). • Design for Manufacture and Assembly, both “manual manufacture & assembly” tailored designs (high part count/low part complexity), and automated manufacture & assembly (low part count/high part complexity) designs.
Contract position as design engineering support for Variable Cost Productivity project team on high complexity cost reduction project. Responsibilities include drawing review & change recommendations, engineering documentation review & support, technical analysis of specific risks, communication with new part suppliers to establish technical specs & new part compliance, & tolerance analysis review.
