Lead Engineer at SITA FOR AIRCRAFT for the OnAir products, a system providing Mobile and WiFi connectivity in aircraft comprising software and embedded hardware on aircraft, communicating via satellite networking to cloud server control software. Responsible for: - Architecture and design of networking / telecommunication systems. - Development and integration of software and hardware systems. - Management of suppliers, external staff and subcontractors. Key activities include: - Leading design and role out of 3G/4G service for mobile communications on aircraft. - Integrating the mobile network with satellite backhaul and backend control systems. - Developing the Aerocel product - an eNodeB 4G radio hardware optimized for aircraft installation. - Working with product management to define new private 5G cloud managed service for airports. - Delegate and rapporteur at ETSI responsible for updating EN harmonized standard for 5G in aircraft. - Top escalation point for solving the most challenging complex technical problems. - Responsible for lab setup: RAN, Core, Wi-Fi, satellite and network equipment, cloud infrastructure and embedded Linux servers, used for system testing, new product development, PoCs and replicating issues.
I provided engineering and management expertise to a number of start-up businesses in the software / IT and construction industries. I led a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians and tradesmen, executing several projects in parallel and taking full responsibility for achieving the objectives throughout the project life cycle. I also played a significant “hands on” role for the IT / networking projects, developing software and integrating wireless and internet technologies.
MSC Telecommunications provided team based consulting to major telecommunications companies, and offered its own software product – a GSM/GPRS Layer 1 for mobile phones. I initiated new projects, managed the development and cultivated partnerships with clients and also played a significant technical role in several development projects for Rhode & Schwarz, Sony-Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks.
