I am a Professional Geologist with over 30 years of experience in oil and gas prospect generation. I am comfortable working independently or in a collaborative team setting. My geoscience career has spanned the WCSB (Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin) from Saskatchewan thru to British Columbia. Focus over the last few years has been on several high-profile carbonate and clastic plays in Western Canada (Bluesky, Blueridge, Montney, Spirit River, and Glauconite). Due to the less than conventional nature of several of these plays the need to utilize sedimentology, stratigraphy, petrophysics, geomechanics, and paleontology have become increasingly important. Recently roles include Senior Geologist, Lead Geologist, and Project Manager for Junior and multi-national E&P companies. In these roles I've collaborated with, and eventually led a multidisciplinary team in evaluating Bluesky heavy oil, Triassic Charlie Lake, Doig, and Montney opportunities in the greater PRA (Peace River Arch) region, as well as Cardium (Primary & Waterflood) and Glauconite opportunities in central Alberta. These efforts led to geological recommendations for asset acquisition, divestiture, and development opportunity. Horizontal drilling programs in the Montney, Doig, Cardium and Glauconite Formations resulted in significant production, and reserve growth for my former companies. During my career I’ve participated in the co-founding, and eventual successful sale of a private equity backed Junior E&P. This experience has provided me with the ability to identify, acquire, and develop prospects in a meaningful manner. I possess strong presentation skills (both written and oral), and am comfortable presenting to either internal or external stakeholders.
Technical Duties o Interpret wire line logs, core, thin section work, cuttings, strip logs, etc. and integrate into mapping, facies and characterization of all Cardium waterflood and non-Cardium plays on OBE land o Generate and manage short term re-completion projects and serve as point contact for geological vetting of all non-Cardium formation optimization o Generate and manage long term, Cardium waterflood and non-Cardium development inventory o Minimize Cardium area, long term liabilities through secondary opportunity identification (ie. Belly River formation and other wellbore re-completions) o Track and communicate on competitor performance and activity including crown land sales o Support commercial teams with farm-in/farm-out and disposition/acquisition evaluations and presentations in all areas o Provide negotiating confidence to commercial teams through geologic reviews and assessments Project Management o Work closely with Reservoir, Field and Exploitation Engineering to support approval and implementation of capital optimization projects o Provide reports and presentations as requested by Sr. Management o Recommend and review any third party generated geoscience technical support o Uphold Obsidian and APEGA code of conduct through ethical and professional behavior Leadership Duties o Act as ‘Chief Geoscientist’ –APEGA Responsible Member for Obsidian o Provide mentorship and vision to Geoscience team – point contact for all peer reviews o Set vision for project deliverables o Inspire and motivate team members for optimal performance o Encourage and demonstrate effective communication within team and between all stakeholders
o Responsible for the development of exploration prospects in the Bigoray, Pembina, and Carrot Creek areas of Alberta. o Horizontal and vertical recompletion programs resulting in several new pool oil/gas discoveries in the Cardium, Pekisko, and Blueridge Formations. o Prepared multi-year development strategies to aid in long range planning exercises o Actively evaluated Cretaceous Spirit River and Glauconite, as well as Devonian Blueridge opportunities in the greater Pembina region.
o Responsible for capital project delivery throughout the North & East Central Alberta Assets o Prepared multi-year development strategies to aid in long range planning exercises o Completed detailed asset evaluations leading to strategic decisions for North & East Central Assets, utilizing and collaborating with a fully complemented development team. o Engaged technical experts in areas of geomechanics, petrology, paleontology, and geochemistry to unlock potential opportunities in the Lower Cretaceous and Montney Formations. o Part of a multidisciplinary task force given the mandate to revamp the TAQA North CMP (Capital Management Process), I was engaged throughout the course of 2015 in the simplification, redrafting, and development of a standardized tool set for use on future capital projects. o Fostered full collaboration within the organization bi-weekly asset meetings. For direct reports bi-weekly “one-on-one” meetings were held to continue to monitor delegated tasks, and deliverables. o Actively evaluated Triassic Charlie Lake, and Montney opportunities in the greater Peace River Arch region (Pouce Coupe; Valhalla; Gordondale; Elmworth), and Cretaceous Cardium, Viking, Spirit River, and Lower Manville in Central Alberta (Rimbey, Ferrier, Willesden Green, Strachan, Ricinus, Caroline). o Provided geological recommendations for asset acquisition, divestiture, and development opportunity o Recommended horizontal drilling programs in the Montney, Doig, and Glauconite Formations resulting significant reserve growth for TAQA North.
Exploration Manager/Co-Founder o Co-founder in junior oil & gas company which was successfully sold in Aug. 2011 o Responsible for the development of exploration prospects in the Gilby, Willesden Green, Leland, Latornell areas of Alberta. o Horizontal and vertical drilling programs resulting in several new pool oil/gas discoveries in the Bluesky, Gething, Ellerslie, and Cardium. o Drilled 32 wells over a 6-year period helping Milestone to grow from 0 BOEPD to a peak rate of 3600 BOEPD. o Provided geological support to drilling, completions, production optimization, production forecasting, full cycle economic evaluations, reserve evaluation, A&D, and capital budgeting o Responsible for the conveyance of geological requirements to senior executives and board members o Involved in the Strategic Planning & management of a capital budget in excess of $40 million per year o Ultimate P+P reserve of 8.3 mmboe and a BT NPV10 value of $145 million (Dec. 31/10) yielding a FD&A of $13.40/boe in 2010 (last full year of operation) and a FD&A since inception of $18.22/boe o Successfully discovered oil & gas while achieving high netbacks ($30.85/boe), low op costs ($9.40/boe), and growing the company from 0 to 3,200 boe/d, ~40% oil & NGL’s
o Musreau District Geologist o Responsible for developing Cretaceous exploration prospects on Conoco’s W6 Musreau, Red Rock, and Bilbo land base. o Drilled 46 wells over a 3-year period effectively growing net production from 300 BOEPD to 3100 BOEPD. o Successful farm-in land deal resulting in the drilling of 2 wells and earning of 14 sections of land at a 100% W.I.. Further swapping of a portion of this interest resulted in access to an additional 11 sections of land, for a combined total of 25 sections of land.
