Red Doe Plantation, Inc. is a National Register Historc Site located in Florence County, South Carolina one mile south of Francis Marion College. The historic home was built in 1846 and played an imporant role in rural farm life during the Antebellume period. The hisoric home remained in the Gregg and Wallace Families until 2005 when it was given to a Historic Preservation group who has sought to restore the old Plantation house.
Friends of Florence Stockade, Inc. is an eliomossonary Not for Profit Corporation founded in 1998 as a Historic Presorvationist group dedicated toward the preservation of the site of the last Prisoner of War camp constructed by the Confederate Government during the last 4 months of the war from October 1864 through the end of Febuary 1865. The camp was built to incarcerate Union Prioners of War who had been captured during Union Army invasion of the southen states during the Southen Campain of 1864-65. The FFS seeks to rebuild part of the old prison stockade as a memorial dedicated to all that strugglede her in the last 4 months of the war. John Kendall Chairs the Development Committee of this non-profit corporation and leads the efforts in supervising the construction.
