Canada
I have over 30 years of community forestry and climate change mitigation and adaptation work centered mainly in Central Africa, and the west coast of Canada. I specialize in the design, development implementation and monitoring/evaluation of climate forest projects using the UNFCCC and/or voluntary sector standard REDD+, IFM, fuel switch and ARR protocols. I helped initiate Africa's largest successful (third party validated and verified) REDD+ project on the western shore of Lake Mai Ndombe in the DR Congo. I worked as a consultant to draft the investment plan for the DRCs National REDD Fund, as well as the Jurisdictional Nested REDD project in Mai Ndombe province. I designed an enhanced value chain '0 Net Deforestation' initiative in DR Congo. Actually, I am assisting Canadian First Nations with climate-focussed environmental restoration and community-based natural resource management projects within their traditional territories.
Main Present Activities: - plan forestry and silvicultural projects for First Nations/indigenous communities - collect and analyze climate forestry data - provide riparian forest restoration services for First Nations/indigenous communities - provide expertise for the development of credible conservative forest carbon project baseline (qualification and quantification) and effective project scenarios (using REDD+, IFM and ARR protocols/methodologies) Main Past Activities: - prepare the start up of the pilot, FIP-funded, integrated Jurisdictional REDD Project or the Plateau District of Bandandu Province (DRC) and to lead te FCPF Carbon Fund Mai Ndombe ER Program ERPD elaboration (WWW DRD's Green Economy Design specialist) -re-scope strategic plans and logic framework for the African Model Forest Network - facilitate a strengthening of capacity and knowledge of surrounding best practices for MORINGA OLEIFERA cultivation and processing - provide expert counsel on land-based climate change mitigation offset and climate change resiliency options for Haiti (mandate from the Haitian Ministry of Environment)
Main Activities: - develop and research Freegro Tree Shelters - contact directly potential clients as a strategy of marketing/promotion - training clients in the installation and recycling of Freegro Tree Shelters Note: the Certified Plant Shelters is located on Prince Rupert
Main Activities: - identify, scope, and conceptualize Forest Carbon - develop and evaluate REDD and AR projects methodology - design and develop forest carbon project (AR IFM and REDD) to VCS, CCB AND CDM standards) - promote forest carbon project as an effective tool to achieve MDG goals that presents a crucial intersect between climate change mitigation and adaptation/resiliency and low carbon development pathways in the developing world. - develop and manage large REDD project in DR Congo that involved - negotiate and execute successfully a carbon rights agreement with the government of the DR Congo - negotiate successfully agreement with 55 local communities within the REDD project area (a 300,000 hectares Forest Conservation Concession on the west shore of Lake Mai Ndombe in northern Bandandu Province) - co-plan and co-facilitate local land use and development/climate forest stewardship plans for the 55 communities within the Mai Ndombe REDD project area - consult and coordinate with all stakeholders in the DR Congo (Mai Ndombe district) - support informally to the DR Congo Ministry of the Environment for its National REDD plan objectives
Main Activities: - design, develop, and implement agrosylvopastoral systems for smallholder farming cooperatives to address critical food and energy insecurity in Burundi and Rwanda - Develop and promote (focus on Central Africa) carbon finance remedies such as afforestation/reforestation, avoided deforestation/REDD, clean technology and renewal energy methodologies to CDM, and voluntary market standards (Verified Carbon Standard and Climate Community and Biodiversity Standard) - Develop Fair Trade and specialty coffee pilot projects
