I have been a photographer since 1984 and has worked extensively in the media landscape and the printed press in South Africa. In this time, I have filled various roles, from Photographer to Photographic Editor. During this time I also pursued interests in the arts by documenting dance and music. Notably two of South Africa’s leading arts festivals at the time; the Dance Umbrella in Johannesburg (1989-2018) and Oppikoppi (2006-2018). Working as a press photographer and photojournalist has influenced my approach. More a street than studio photographer, my style tends towards reportage. In recent years I also penned articles on travel, environment and photography, areas I have interest and knowledge in. Besides his photographic work, I have also exhibited and my work featured in a variety books and publications, usually on an arts theme. I also trained and coached emerging photographers on the Photojournalism and Documentary Photography course that is run at the Market Photo Workshop in Johannesburg.
