Responsible for working with Research Leadership (Senior VP for Research, etc.) and leading groups of faculty from different disciplines to strategize future directions in research, especially in areas with societal impact. Duties include the development, information gathering and integration, writing, evaluation and editing of grant proposals and reports.
- Researched and identified, federal government, state government, private, corporate and/or foundation funding prospects. - Generated proposals and supporting documents following agency guidelines in response to requests for proposals or as part of solicitation strategy. Assisted in the development of white papers, letters of intent, abstracts, proposal development and providing grant writing services for UTPA faculty and staff to the following agencies: 1. National Science Foundation 2. US Department of Education 3. National Institute of Health 4. US Department of Defense – Army, Navy, and Air Force 5. NASA 6. US Department of Health and Human Services 7. US Department of Agriculture 8. Texas Governor’s Office 9. Educate Texas 10. Texas Workforce Commission - Ensured the timely submission of grant proposals. - Maintained and implemented funding calendar activities, including cultivation activities. - Acted as a liaison with program staff in different University departments. - Identified funding opportunities and new program areas to match institutional priorities, using research tools. - Ensured that all grants were compliant with university policy, communicated, and coordinated with the Office of Sponsored Projects Staff. - Communicated with program officers at different organizations to solicit invitations to submit proposals. - Assisted in the planning and development of special projects associated with grant submissions. For example, developed and implemented NSF grant writing templates, developed and presented a NSF grant writing training, and presented to the new faculty about OSP’s services.
- Project goal is to increase the number of rehabilitation counselors nationwide from underserved populations. - The CHRR works with HSIs, HBCUs, and TCUs to get more academic rehabilitation programs started or for existing rehabilitation programs to improve recruitment of underserved populations. - Secondly, to train and provide technical assistance to Minority Institutions of Higher Education to write for RSA/NIDRR grants. - Thirdly, if awarded provide training and technical assistance to MIHEs on grant management. - Outcomes have included 2 new HSI doctoral programs, 8 master’s programs and several specializations, and 9 undergraduate programs, - Over 55 million dollars have been submitted with over 40 million dollars being funded for MIHEs.
