After 40 years as a software engineer I tried to retire. I didn't like it, So I have retrained in the mental health field as a Peer Support Specialist. volunteered part-time at a recovery residence in Redwood city. That led to helping startups with developing AI based "emotion-tech" software. Also helping my old friend Peter Fiekowski restore the climate with Iron Ocean Seeding proposals. I've loved technology since the I was a teenager (think Heath-kits), especially fast, small footprint networking stacks and embedded systems. In spring 2020 I completed an MS from Boston University. In the 1980s I led the team at Wollongong which created the first commercial TCP/IP stack for IBM PCs, lowering the cost of access to the Internet from $50K to about $3K. From 1996-2003 I was founder and CTO of Interniche Technologies, the leading supplier of Internet technology for embedded devices which made Internet access practical for millions (billions?) of embedded devices. More recently I was a key contributor to the Taser's Axon wearable "Police cam" and the network that allowed it to pass live videos around in real time.. I am also the creator (pro-bono) of the open source Network Neutrality Squad Management Agent (NNMA), a DPI system that could detect forged TCP resets based on timing. The NNMA was part of a Google effort (led by Vint Cerf) which resulted in better Network Neutrality worldwide.
I'm currently Chief Technology Officer at two unfunded "passion projects" Evonaire.ai and biomoods.com.
Counselor for neurodiverse people coming from jails and homeless camps. They lived in our dorm-like facility while we prepared them for productive living. It was there I realized that most mental health treatment lacks collection of hard data about the patient. I left to found biomoods.com.
Took courses concurrently with working on software Contracts at GEO Semiconductor and Cisco. Landed a 3.9 GPA overall.
