The European Investment Fund, the Austria Wirtschaftsservice and the Max Planck Foundation committed in a first closing an investment of a total volume of € 70 million into KHAN-I investment fund for a period of 5 plus 2 years in early-stage drug discovery projects. To facilitate professional translation in life sciences in Austria, KHAN-I has founded Vienna-based wings4innovation GmbH for scouting and executing promising drug discovery projects. Projects are sourced predominantly from academia in Germany and Austria, focussing on innovative therapeutic opportunities in indications with high unmet medical need. KHAN-I will invest into either innovative project ideas covered by collaboration agreements or into start-up vehicles. The Lead Discovery Center in Dortmund a professional drug discovery and translational research incubator originally founded by Max-Planck-Innovation GmbH with a proven track record will provide its drug discovery services to incubate these novel project hypotheses, where applicable.
The Deep Technologies Department at the Austrian federal promotional bank provides financing and support to innovative deep tech start-ups (Digital/AI + Green Technologies, Physical + Life Sciences and other breakthrough technologies). Venture financing of up to 1.3M€ per company: - PreSeed financing (https://www.aws.at/en/aws-preseed-deep-tech/ ) for entrepreneurs to transform their breakthrough innovations into a scalable business - Seedfinancing (https://www.aws.at/en/aws-seedfinancing-deep-tech/ ) for start-ups preparing market access.
