This includes power market design and the role of various actors such as solar & wind generation, grid storage, and demand flexibility. A special focus was set on the asset strategy of Hamburger Energiewerke GmbH for district heating generators, encompassing thermal power plants (H₂ + CH₄ / biomass), large-scale heat pumps, heat storage, and industrial waste heat. - Fostered renewables permitting and business models for solar and wind in the State of Hamburg. - Analyzed interactions and market mechanisms of the gas and electricity markets, with special consideration during the 2022 energy crisis. - Developed a capacity market mechanism proposal that treats asset classes (especially BESS & gas peakers) fairly according to their actual system stability benefits. - Designed a system cost-oriented grid fee proposal to avoid market distortions, especially concerning wholesale markets. - Developed policy proposals to enable hybrid plants with improved grid utilization; focus on solar + storage - Built a comprehensive startup ecosystem in Hamburg, with a focus on artificial intelligence, computing, and venture funding. - Fostered the Port of Hamburg, promoting Make Shipping Green Again through electrification and e-fuels.
