From remote Pilbara operations to residential boarding environments, I have led people through high-pressure, high-risk situations where safety, judgement, and clear leadership matter. My leadership is grounded in preventative safety, consultation, and capability building. I have learned that effective leadership is not about control or authority, but about creating clear systems, listening carefully to people, and empowering teams to keep themselves and others safe. This approach has allowed me to stabilise environments where stress, ambiguity, and risk previously undermined performance. I bring a consistent safety-first and people-focused mindset across diverse contexts, including open-pit mining, farming operations, aquatic management, and residential boarding. I hold a Diploma of Work Health and Safety, a graduate certificate in Management, and ongoing postgraduate study, supported by extensive WHS and safety leadership training. I am recognised for identifying hazards early, influencing safer practice, and embedding systems that prevent incidents rather than reacting to them. At Albany Residential College, I have contributed to strengthening safety culture by developing practical guidance and processes, including risk management documentation, staff induction materials, and consultation procedures. These initiatives improved reporting, clarified expectations, and supported consistent practice across staff groups through training and ongoing consultation. I have learned important lessons in high-consequence environments, where accountability and procedural discipline are non-negotiable. These experiences shaped my ability to remain calm under pressure, take responsibility for mistakes, adapt quickly, and maintain focus on safe outcomes while meeting operational demands. Currently, as a Boarding Supervisor and Health and Safety Representative, I support student wellbeing, lead hazard identification and reporting, coordinate emergency responses, de-escalate incidents, and uphold duty of care and compliance requirements. My focus is on building sustainable systems, developing staff capability, and aligning practice with organisational and legislative expectations. I am motivated by roles where I can contribute to safe, ethical, and well-led environments, support others to perform at their best, and continue developing as a values-driven leader.
During my time I have lead positive student wellbeing practice, developed a safety mindset and promoted safe staff practice within a complex residential environment supporting approximately 80 secondary students. Operated in a 24/7 duty-of-care context requiring sound judgement, emotional intelligence, and consistent leadership during both routine operations and critical incidents. Provided leadership in risk management, student welfare, and staff supervision, including the implementation of WH&S risk management document, suicide prevention controls, behavioural support frameworks, and clear escalation pathways aligned with policy and legislative requirements. Ensured mandatory reporting and documentation obligations were met to support defensible decision-making and early risk identification. As a Health and Safety Representative, I contributed to strengthening workplace safety systems by leading hazard identification, consultation, and corrective actions. Chaired and participated in WHS meetings, supported incident investigations, and worked with leadership to translate policy into practical, on-the-ground procedures that improved compliance and staff confidence. Led the integration of behaviour support plans to address identified gaps in student conduct and wellbeing. Monitored implementation, reinforced expectations, and applied formal escalation processes when agreements were breached, ensuring consistency, fairness, and student safety while maintaining professional boundaries. Built a cooperative and inclusive residential culture by modelling calm, respectful leadership, supporting staff during high-pressure situations, and facilitating clear communication between students, parents, school leadership, and multidisciplinary teams. Regularly led difficult conversations with empathy and authority to protect wellbeing and maintain standards.
Had a short-term contract overseeing the safe, compliant, and high-functioning operation of a community aquatic facility, ensuring consistent standards of cleanliness, safety, and risk mitigation in accordance with legislative and organisational requirements. Held operational responsibility for staff coordination and supervision, including lifeguards, maintenance personnel, and swimming instructors. Managed rosters, monitored performance, and ensured appropriate training, clearances, and competencies were in place to support safe and effective service delivery. Maintained oversight of risk management and safety systems, including hazard identification, incident follow-up, and implementation of corrective actions. Adopted a solution-focused approach to minimise operational risk and prevent incidents before escalation. Managed stock control and chemical handling, ensuring safe storage, accurate monitoring, and compliance with pool operations standards. Regularly reviewed and updated policies and procedures to reflect current best practice, regulatory requirements, and site-specific risks. Demonstrated leadership through calm decision-making, clear communication, and accountability, contributing to a safe, reliable facility valued by patrons and staff alike.
Operated and coordinated heavy plant within a high-risk waste management facility, supporting compliant, efficient waste operations across the Newman and broader Pilbara region. Equipment operated included Tana Crusher (19-tonne), excavator, front-end loader, water truck, tip truck, and forklift, requiring precise control in confined and dynamic environments. Contributed to day-to-day waste operations planning and execution, servicing local government and major industry clients including BHP, Veolia, and Cleanaway, in alignment with Shire procedures and site-specific waste management plans. Held responsibility for site functionality and traffic flow, including construction and maintenance of internal roads, pods, and windrows—particularly following flood damage. Ensured organised waste segregation and controlled movement to designated areas to maintain compliance and operational efficiency. Performed high-risk crushing operations using a Tana Crusher in uneven terrain and constrained layouts, applying constant risk assessment and situational awareness to manage awkward angles and interaction risks. Actively identified and addressed operational and safety risks: Raised traffic management concerns where single-lane layouts unnecessarily increased truck interactions, contributing to redesign of work areas to eliminate interaction risks. Identified unmanaged vehicle interaction risks during crushing and pod construction activities, consulted directly with drivers and supervisors, and escalated issues through safety channels. Contributed to the implementation of improved procedures requiring two-way communication for trucks entering active work areas, reducing uncontrolled interactions. Demonstrated strong problem-solving, consultation, and safety leadership, with a focus on preventing incidents, improving workflow, and maintaining safe operations in a high-consequence environment.
Worked in a safety-critical, high-production open pit mining environment supporting compliant and efficient blasting operations. Operated within strict procedural and safety frameworks while contributing to production continuity, crew coordination, and risk control. Held a diverse operational role including: Operation of CAT 930 loader in pit and yard environments Yard and logistics coordination, including deliveries, stocktake, and restocking of blasting consumables Conducting hazard identification and risk assessments to support safe daily operations Working autonomously within Minestar-controlled environments, maintaining situational awareness and compliance As a Shotfirer Assistant, supported end-to-end blast execution by translating the blast plan into coordinated on-ground action. Acted as a key communication link between the shotfirer, haul truck operators, drillers, and crew members to ensure alignment, safe access control, and orderly preparation of blast patterns. Contributed to blasting execution and production delivery, including: Priming blast holes and offsiding MPU trucks during gassing, augering, and hosing Stemming holes, string-in using tagger systems, and preparing patterns for firing Coordinating crew movements across active blast areas to maintain safe separation and workflow Managed blasting supply chain and logistics, ensuring continuity of operations: Monitored and ordered drill and blast consumables in consultation with drillers Handled and coordinated deliveries of AL4, N17, fuel, ammonium nitrate, and T5000 emulsion Operated CAT 930 loader with forks for unloading deliveries and loading AN hoppers for MPU trucks Completed stocktakes, raised notifications, and maintained high housekeeping standards Supported quality assurance and data integrity through: Sampling blast cone holes on active patterns Maintained a strong safety leadership mindset, operating under BHP safety standards and safe systems of work.
Worked with local Marto students in Newman involved in a program called the 'engagement room' located at school. The key was to increase engagement of local Marto kids into education programs and equipping them to perform well when they leave school and are introduced to society where expectations are high for any citizen. The skill levels ranged massively and the aim was to at least establish a basic level of numeracy and literacy so that comprehension of practical things like bank and employer contractual agreements can be understood by the student.
