About

Passionate Senior Project Manager Energy Technology at VITO/EnergyVille since 2009 with working experience on EU project management and proposal writing in the field of energy management systems and district heating networks. Setting-up and coordinating research and demonstration projects mainly related to district heating networks and smart and intelligent buildings is my focus. Setting up new projects and making “the bridge” between research/innovation and industry to create impact in society has always been my main driver. My professional highlights: • Within the H2020 STORM project a smart district heating controller was developed and demonstrated by VITO on two demonstration sites reducing the peak power in the network with up to 12 to 17%. This project paved the way to commercialisation of the STORM controller. • Extension of the STORM controller to low temperature networks and reducing the return temperature in these networks resulted within the H2020 TEMPO project in a peak reduction of 35% and an improvement of the electricity revenues by 8%. I’m a member of the renewable energy technology - cross-cutting technology platform (RHC-ETIP) with strategic advice on new research topics. EXPERTISE: project management, district heating networks, renewable energy, energy, exploitation, setting up proposals and projects, delivering projects on time and within budget, networking, digitalization.

Experience

  • Project manager HEU Hurricane project at EnergyVille
    Jan 2024 - Present · 2 yrs 6 mos

The main objective of HURRICANE is to create a sector-coupling circular hub cantered around the ArcelorMittal Ghent site. HURRICANE will target efficient resource management together with the recovery and utilisation of squandered industrial waste heat and water coming from the different steel mill processes. Together with ArcelorMittal Ghent’s ongoing initiatives, this will lead to a reduction of energy, water, and raw materials by 20% while significantly reducing the GHG emissions

  • Project manager H2020 Smart2B project at VITO/EnergyVille
    2022 - Present · 4 yrs 6 mos

  • VITO (Mol, Flemish Region, Belgium)
    • Project coordinator of H2020 TEMPO project
      2017 - 2022 · 5 yrs

The TEMPO project developed and demonstrated innovations for low temperature district heating networks to enable the reduction of network temperatures, to achieve higher efficiency, cost competitiveness and the capability of integrating sustainable energy sources by implementing AI based self-learning algorithms and models. The project is a cooperation between 8 partners: VITO (BE), NODA (SE), AIT (AT), Thermaflex (NL), Solites (DE), A2A (IT), Enerpipe (DE), EHP (BE) and Halmstadt university (SE) and has a total budget of 3,1 m€.. This position involved skills as project management, communication with European Commission, leadership, negotiation, time and risk management, delegation, and problem-solving skills, digitalisation, AI.

    • Board member of the RHC – ETIP (2017 - 2019)
      2017 - 2019 · 2 yrs

Board member of the ETIP-RHC platform for renewable energy to support the strategic vision and mission of the technology district heating networks.

    • Project coordinator of H2020 STORM project
      2015 - 2019 · 4 yrs

The STORM project developed and demonstrated demand side management systems for autonomous AI control and optimization of district heating networks to reduce the peaks in district heating networks. The developed controller enables to maximise the use of waste heat and renewable energy sources in DHC networks and optimise energy efficiency in the system. The project is coordinated by VITO/EnergyVille and involves NODA Intelligent Systems (SE), Zuyd University of Applied Science (NL), Euroheat & Power (BE) and the demonstration site operators Mijnwater BV (NL) and Växjö Energi (SE) and has a total budget of 4 m€. This position involved project management skills, review and reporting of deliverables, contractual and financial management and communication skills.
