As a school counselor at MacArthur Fundamental Intermediate School, I provide a data-driven, comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model and CAMTSS Framework, ensuring all students receive academic, college/career, and personal/social-emotional services. Using a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), I provide classroom lessons, one-on-one counseling and group counseling to address behavior, attendance, social-emotional, and academic needs of students. To support college and career readiness, my counseling team and I implement our college and career exploration program. Last school year, as a team, we decreased the number of failed grades earned by 5.8%. I collaborate closely with my administrators, teachers, and other staff members to provide comprehensive support services to students. I participate in our PBIS team, Coordination of Services Team (COST), Parent Faculty Organization (PFO), Wellness and Parent Engagement Committee, and School Counseling Advisory Committee. I also facilitate parent workshops on topics relevant to student success and well-being. If needed, I also participate in 504, Student Success Team (SST), and Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings. I monitor and address attendance issues by collaborating with students, families, and school staff to promote regular attendance. I plan and host monthly lunchtime, afterschool events, and/or spirit weeks based on awareness days, special occasions, or student requests. I foster a positive and supportive school culture and climate while providing students with the necessary resources and support to achieve their academic, social/emotional, and postsecondary goals.
As the ASB Co-Advisor, I work with 35 students to ensure we promote school spirit and a positive school climate. ASB plays a pivotal role at MacArthur as it contributes to the overall well-being of the school community. We host dances, lunchtime activities, staff appreciation, a school talent show, and family nights. The ASB members serve as the voice of the student body and work tirelessly to enhance the overall educational experience.
