In 2022, I founded Unicorns & Polka Dots, a nonprofit that helps people struggling with substance use disorder (SUD) identify and implement the life skills required to thrive and live a purposeful and productive life. It’s a passion project that is saving lives every day. The need has never been greater: 20 million Americans suffer from SUD, yet only 11% of adults with this mental illness receive treatment. Individuals struggling with SUD and their families need professional help navigating the fragmented recovery process. Our organization is working to establish The Recovery College, a program that will provide ongoing support and access to essential life-skills development, education and mental health resources for those in recovery.
