About

Specialties: Appraisal and field development. I am primarily an interpreter, but have extensive experience with seismic acquisition (mostly land) and processing. I am proficient with Landmark and SMT for seismic interpretation, and with EarthVision and JewelSuite for 3D static reservoir modeling.

Experience

  • Southwestern Energy (16 yrs 7 mos)
    • Retired
      Apr 2016 - Present · 10 yrs 3 mos

    • Technology Director for Geophysics
      Dec 2009 - Mar 2016 · 6 yrs 4 mos

As Technology Director for Geophysics in the Corporate Technology Team, I was responsible for identifying the latest and most innovative geophysical technologies, and seeing that they got implemented in SWN. As Chief Geophysicist from April 2012 to May 2014, I was responsible for recruiting and developing the technical and support staff, ensuring cross-division and cross-discipline knowledge transfer as well as identifying, investigating and promoting value-creating technologies. From Dec. 2009 to April 2012 I worked the Arkoma Basin and the Marcellus shale in NE Pennsylvania, where I was involved in the horizontal drilling program, 3-D seismic interpretation, microseismic projects, geomechanical studies, and reservoir modeling.

  • Geoscientist at Consultant
    Mar 2016 - Jun 2024 · 8 yrs 4 mos

Currently retired from full-time geophysical work, but I enjoy learning more about Oregon geology, and geology & geophysics in general.

  • Geophysicist at BP
    Jul 1980 - Dec 2009 · 29 yrs 6 mos

Arkoma Basin geophysicist since January 2004. I worked in field development, mainly drilling Red Oak Field horizontal and vertical wells (approximately 100 in a six year period). Prior to this position, I worked in Stavanger, Norway for 2.5 years and Cairo, Egypt for 5 years. In Stavanger, I worked Gyda and Tambar Fields in the Norwegian North Sea and was part of the team that divested Gyda Field to Talisman in 2003. In Egypt, I worked the redevelopment of Abu Gharadig field in the Western Desert, acquired and processed new 3D data, and began a new drilling development which revitalized Amoco's interest in the area. I also performed seismic reprocessing in the Gulf of Suez, focusing on demultiple processes which contributed to several major discoveries and successful development drilling. Between 1980 and 1996, I worked a wide variety of assignments for Amoco in New Orleans, Denver, Houston, Myanmar, and Norway. A partial list of projects includes OCS lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico, development of the Matagorda Island 622, 623 field, heliportable 2D seismic acquisition in northern Myanmar, and exploration in the Barents Sea and onshore Yemen.

  • Geophysicist at U.S. Geological Survey
    Mar 1979 - Jul 1980 · 1 yr 5 mos

Prepared resource evaluations in support of OCS offshore lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico. Metairie, Louisiana office.
