Australia
I have 20 plus years experience working in the gold exploration and mining industry in New Zealand, Suriname, Queensland, and Western Australia. During this time I have worked on a variety of projects ranging from deep field grass roots exploration to near mine exploration and resource definition, along with recent experience with underground production. I have a masters degree in metamorphic petrology and structure and have worked in porphyry, epithermal and orogenic hosted Au deposits, which has exposed me to a variety of diferent mineralisation systems. After 12 years working as an exploration geologist, I took a year off in 2018 to travel around Australia in our trusty hilux and a tent, returning to the gold mining industry in early 2019 and took an underground mine geologist role to gain some valuable experience in production. I thoroughly enjoy working in the exploration industry and welcome all opportunities to see new rocks and learn about other deposits. I am especially passionate about teaching/mentoring junior geologists and helping to create supportive, enthusiastic, successful teams that benefit both the company and their staff. Specialties: High understanding of metamorphic and igneous petrology and Archean gold mineralisation systems Strong leadership/mentoring skills Strong project management skills Highly organised and motivated with excellent communication skills Strong commitment to creating a safe, positive and supportive team and working environment Proven success in running exploration teams and delivering programs to successful operating mines
I have taken a side ways move to gain some production experience, taking on a project underground role with evolution at their Frogs Leg mine.
After more than a decade in the exploration industry I took a well deserved break and travelled around Australia for 1.5 years to see the sights of this beautiful country.
No change in role, just new owners as Northern Star Resources aquired Barrick's Kalgoorlie operations in March 2014. During this time as the senior geologist I was in charge of the exploration and resource defintion teams and programs that developed the Pegasus project, located in the Kundana region 20km west of Kalgoorlie, from a 270,000 Oz to a >1,000,000 Oz resource. The project was handed over to the production team in late 2015 and has become a sucessful operating mine.
I have recently made the move into resource development and long term planning, with a focus on taking sucessful large scale exploration projects through to the production stage.
I worked an eight month contract at Kanowna Belle underground mine, where I processed a large back log of core, and provided detailed core logging of the underground exploration holes as well as mentoring the graduate geologists. This role also allowed me to gain important exposure to, and new skills in, the production side of the industry.
