Combining traditional law clerk duties with case management, I dually support the Healthcare Fraud Unit Trial Attorneys in multiple Strike Force Offices and assist CACI with paralegal development and enrichment by: o Conducting legal research via Lexis Nexis & Westlaw for court motions and internal memo drafting. o Administratively project-manage the Pharmacy Wholesalers Initiative’s logistical coordination of evidence culling, government inter-agency liaisoning, running weekly accountability meetings, strategizing discovery production roadblock solutions, and using the Relativity eDiscovery platform to process voluminous amounts of data to bring this initiative “to bear” after Indictment. o Serve as a Trial Consultant to Assistant Chiefs in their planning and execution of trial strategies, evidence presentation, and equipping paralegals with elevated resources for complexes cases. o Developed content for and conducted 30+ Onboarding trainings for new paralegals covering case management and legal processes, in addition to developing and contributing heavily to paralegal development & enrichment courses, conferences, and forming new standard procedures.
Assisted Healthcare Fraud Unit Trial Attorneys with all phases of litigation, including investigation, grand jury, discovery, trial preparation, trial, and sentencing. Legal tasks included: o Drafting of pleadings, subpoenas, motions, and other court filings, and timely e-filing them using the Public Access to Court Electronic Records Filing (PACER) portal, and CourtLink to track dockets. o Generating search warrant applications, preservation requests, and other investigation-oriented orders; prepping discovery production materials (Bates stamping, redactions, proofreading), drafting and serving grand jury and trial subpoenas, managing evidence data logs, calendaring, and serving as a liaison between the prosecution team, our govt agency partners, witnesses, and court personnel. o Utilizing LAWS to submit various evidence processing requests, Relativity eDiscovery platform to conduct searches and prepare discovery productions, and Trial Director for presentation in court. o Preparing, maintaining and updating trial exhibits, creating trial exhibit binders, managing transcript ordering/invoicing, and connecting DOJ witness travel, language, and contract services for trial.
For various client data breach projects, I have reviewed and coded legal documents for Non-Public Personal Information and Personal Health Information, in addition to other potentially sensitive data. Using Relativity Document Review software and Microsoft Excel for these projects, I linked and flagged all relevant documents for entry level and upper-level review in a timely and sometimes fast-paced manner due to client deadline constrictions.
During my service, I assisted Pro Bono attorneys at Mandatory Court Settlement Conferences for Foreclosure matters by managing homeowner intake, prepping attorneys to represent clients, and gave critical education and support to homeowners. I also participated in settlement conferences before judges and/or the court-appointed referee. I would also assist attorneys at the monthly bar association legal clinic with client intake and consultation.
Working alongside Sheryl Orwel, Esq., in preparation for the 2018 Kings County primary election for Civil Court Judge, I coordinated canvassing efforts, distributed campaign literature, and trained volunteers in leafleting and community interaction. Further, I assisted the campaign manager in any preparatory campaign tasks for the New York primaries on September 13th.
