João is a Portuguese-British media entrepreneur and award-winning technology and business journalist. He is the founder of Mondego Media Group (MMG), a fully bootstrapped, independent publishing and intelligence business focused on the global digital infrastructure sector. Through MMG, João founded and edits The Tech Capital, a digital media, data, and events platform covering the investment, companies, and people building the world’s data centres, cloud, connectivity, and AI infrastructure. Built without external funding and profitable from inception, the business has grown into a trusted source of insight for investors, operators, and policymakers worldwide. His work is driven by a belief that digital infrastructure is not abstract or infinite, but physical, capital-intensive, and deeply geopolitical. He focuses on separating real signal from noise by connecting capital, operators, and policymakers to what actually gets built. Over the past decade, João has reported from more than 40 countries across Europe, North America, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region. He has interviewed virtually all major CEOs of global data centre companies, alongside senior executives, investors, and policymakers shaping the digital economy. His reporting has moved markets, triggered public responses, and been cited by investors and decision-makers. João is known for an investment-first, geopolitically informed, and infrastructure-realist perspective, sitting at the intersection of capital, technology, and policy. Senior industry leaders frequently engage with him privately to share insight, context, and off-record perspectives. Prior to founding MMG, João served as editor-in-chief of Data Economy and later Capacity Media, leading global technology and infrastructure publications owned by Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC, with close involvement in flagship industry events including Datacloud, ITW, and the Capacity conference series. He began his career at outlets including The Guardian, Channel 4 News, The Daily Mail, Computer Business Review, and Antena Lusa. In 2019, he was recognised in the Professional Publishers Association’s 30 Under 30 awards. João is also the founder and host of the Great Business Minds Podcast, exploring the business of digital infrastructure with global industry leaders. He holds a BA in Journalism from London Metropolitan University.
