Energy transition and climate governance are at the core of my research. With a background in spatial planning and public policy, I study decision-making in complex, multi-actor settings across the public and private sectors, with a focus on governance, institutions, and regulation. My work is situated within environmental social science, with expertise in energy transition, industrial decarbonisation, climate policy, and sustainable urban development. Currently focusing on the governance of energy and industrial transitions in China and the Asia-Pacific region. I am particularly interested in policy pathways for deep decarbonisation, as well as perspectives from transition studies, complexity science, and institutional analysis. * Open to academic and policy collaborations on energy transition, industrial decarbonisation, and governance. My work examines the governance and policy pathways of energy transition and industrial decarbonisation, with a particular focus on green iron and steel supply chains across Australia, China, and the Asia-Pacific region. Through this research, I analyse the broader policy, economic, and environmental implications of low-emissions industrial development and the role of cross-border value chains in enabling deep decarbonisation. Alongside research, I support the policy outreach and practical engagement of the Centre by helping connect academic work with real-world policy and industry challenges. A key part of my role is to strengthen the applied and policy value of research, including generating insights that can inform government decision-making and broader transition strategies. I also contribute to teaching and academic service as the role develops.

My PhD research focuses on energy transition at the local level in Chinese context through a planning perspective. There are two important and ongoing shifts in the governance of energy transition: 1) a shift from government to governance, and 2) increased decentralization and use of area-specific approaches. My PhD research is particularly interested in how both these possible changes in energy governance can work out within the Chinese top-down political scheme. My PhD research follows a qualitative case study approach. 90 interviews were carried out with stakeholders in eight selected Chinese cities. My PhD research highlights the value of an area-specific and associated decentralized approach to energy transition that emphasizes integration of policy and collaboration of actors and institutions into Chinese centralized-oriented energy governance. Capitalizing on this added value, however, depends crucially on Chinese centralized-oriented energy governance for both enabling and sufficiently stimulating local willingness and ability. My PhD thesis “Planning for Energy Transition” has been published in AESOP InPlanning (Association of European Schools of Planning). Please follow the link to check my book.
