Served as an Agroforestry Extension Agent in the Linking Income Food and the Environment (LIFE) project in the Republic of Zambia. The LIFE project is a joint effort between the Peace Corps and the Zambian Department of Forestry which focuses on training small-scale rural farmers in sustainable agricultural practices, as well as business planning, financial management, sustainable aquaculture, and animal husbandry. These new skills allow farmers to improve food security, nutrition, and income generation for their families and communities. • Managed and facilitated multiple workshops on planting, growing, harvesting and processing upland/wetland rice varieties. Several workshops operated in collaboration with the local Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) representative in the district. Over 27 farmers successfully completed workshop trainings. • Managed and directed fish farming workshops alongside the Department of Fisheries. Thirty-six fish farmers were educated over two years about proper pond location, pond staking and stocking, maintenance techniques, and how to organically produce supplemental fish feeds. • Worked with Zambia’s national Scaling Up Nutrition project, which targeted pregnant and lactating mothers to teach sustainable agriculture and promote nutritious crops that deliver the necessary nutrition to developing infants.
