TYROLIT Group empowers manufacturing excellence with over six years of expertise in grinding processes and advanced manufacturing. As an Application Engineer, the focus is on optimizing machining techniques, process improvement, and tools to enhance performance and efficiency across industries. Contributions prioritize data-driven solutions and collaboration to meet evolving production challenges. Previous experience as Technical Lead at AMRC further shaped proficiency in grinding and surface finishing, with an emphasis on experimental planning, CAD/CAM, and technical reporting. A consistent commitment to innovation and problem-solving underscores a mission to bridge industry and engineering advancements seamlessly.
The AMRC is a centre for advanced machining and materials research for aerospace and other high value manufacturing sectors, with a strong application focus aiming to better link academia and industry. Working within the Machining Group, as Technical Lead for the Grinding and Surface Finishing team, with a primary focus on early stage technology, non-conventional grinding techniques and process assessment. Technically responsible for experimental planning and procedure, tooling selection, process selection, CAD/CAM, programming, data capture, data analysis, detailed technical report writing and technical presentation. Worked on a diverse range of projects including ceramic matrix composites (CMCs), grindability assessment, superabrasive high speed (dry) rail grinding and prototype production of mining components made from hard machine materials. Non-technical aspects include business development and market analysis, estimating, planning, customer and supplier management and project management. Also played a key role in planning the future of the team, by authoring the road mapping activity which aims to dictate the team’s direction both short and long term.
MTL group is a fast moving metal processing organisation specialising in laser cutting, press breaking and fabrication providing just in time solutions to defence, construction, offshore, recycling and rail sectors. Responsible for on time delivery of parts for a key client, spread over a 500 part product list requiring 4 container deliveries a week. A high pressure role supporting just in time delivery, main duties included material acquisition, planning work and expediting parts both internally and with subcontractors. Also responsible for quality issues and the development of new parts for manufacture.
Castings Technology International (CTI) is a member based organisation that provides R&D expertise, technology advice and high quality castings to industry. CTI primarily specialises in low volume, high value castings supplying industries such as F1, aerospace, defence, nuclear, medical, oil and gas. Whilst at CTI I have spent the majority of my time working within the inspection department. During this time I have gained an excellent knowledge of alignment and inspection techniques. I have also developed a new system for Rolls Royce in order for them to achieve very high tolerances from cast parts. In this role I am required to give presentations to customers in order to relate project status and technical information. I am regularly requested by project managers to take customer facing roles due to the positive feedback they have received from some of our more high profile clients. Another aspect of my role at CTI is as a CAD modeler within the design team. I have produced 3d components from technical drawings using CATIA v5 for production. These parts have included mooring fixtures for large vessels, guide rope attachments for suspension bridges and casting methods for numerous production parts. I have also had the opportunity to work with a wide range of technologies including CMM’s, faro arms, 3d scanners, stereolythography machines and z-corp 3d printers. Due to my aptitude for technology and engineering systems I have been responsible for developing the procedures and working practices for new technologies including the 3d scanning and z-corp prototyping equipment.
