I have been working in the Process Piping Industry for 24 years. Of those 24 years, 14 years have been in the Pulp and Paper Industry; 7 years in the Specialty Chemicals manufacturing Industry; 2 years in the Food/Beverage Industry and 1 year in Ethanol refining industry. Of the 24 years; 18 years are as a Project Manager and Construction Manager. To support those roles, I have 20+ years of Process Design including; P&ID design; Piping layouts; specialty Pipe Supports; Plant layouts; Piping Isometrics (manual and CAD); extensive field work; Pump sizing; pipe line sizing; Pipe Stress Analysis; supervising and training Jr. designers and Jr. engineers; knowledge of API, NFPA and ASME codes; working with mill/plant operations, mill maintenance personnel to implement process systems and state of the art technology. Advanced training and experience includes Process Safety Engineering via Proctor and Gamble training programs - (Process safety is a blend of engineering and management skills focused on preventing catastrophic accidents, accidental cross contamination, and near misses, particularly; structural collapse, explosions, fires and toxic releases associated with loss of containment of energy (to include over-pressure/excessive vacuum) or dangerous substances such as chemicals and petroleum products. These engineering and management skills exceed those required for managing workplace safety). My design software experience includes; CAD drafting (AutoCAD and Microstation); Stress Analysis either through associated software (Ceasar, Caepipe) or longhand; 3D modeling via Cadworx and AutoPlant. I have had the opportunity to work for industry recognized Engineering Consulting firms; multiple manufacturing companies and my own small design company. This has allowed me to approach projects from multiple perspectives which adds to the quality of the finished product. Every day and every project holds challenges that I look forward to meeting.
To assist ND Paper ownership with the implementation and streamlining of oversight for all Capital and Construction projects at all of the US mills and facilities. This includes: working with the existing mills in the United States to create, organize and assist with project development, engineering and construction oversight; assisting the home office (US) with increasing and organizing the organizational structure of the Capital and Construction Projects department; training (and learning from) new department members. This was an extremely challenging position.
In April 2017, I was afforded an invitation by the engineering management of Georgia Pacific-Foley Cellulose in Perry, Florida to represent EGS as a Project Manager and Construction Manager for an extended period of time (the mill is a former client when I worked for Frucon/Bilfinger/Yates). I was previously the Design Department Manager for EGS; supervising designers, man hour forecasts, training and checking multi-discipline designs. Part of my job description is to: develop engineering scopes and estimates; manage multiple projects simultaneously from cradle to grave; create and submit proposals; perform process calculations as required (Stress Analysis, line/pump/control valve sizing, spring hanger sizing, system resistance curves, etc...). I am still "hands on" in performing (Process, Mechanical, Piping and Structural) conceptual and detailed design including, 2D and 3D modeling using the latest CAD programs. I have extensive experience in Construction Management and am able to ta kik e the client's project from cradle to grave. I check all engineered designs prior to "IFC" to client and perform Chemical Process Safety Studies on critical processes.
Process Piping Design; API 650 and API 620 vessel design; stress analysis; specialty pipe support design; P&ID design; Process Safety Reviews
