I have been involved in Healthcare Provision both Primary and Secondary for the last 25 years. I am an ex Serviceman having served for a combined 22 year career in the Defence Medical Service's (both Army and Royal Navy). During this time I had a number of assignments working as a Combat Medical Technician/Commado trained Medical Assistant ashore and afloat in support of Amphibious Operations and at Air stations providing Primary care /Emergency cover to Service Personnel finishing my Service at Mangement grade.I worked at the Royal Airforce Centre for Aviation Medicine (07-09), as both Hypobaric and Hyperbaric Chamber Operator for Hypoxia training of Aircrew, gaining a good knowledge of Aircrew health matters,Flight safety and Human factors. I have served all around the globe in all climatic conditions,providing Primary care / Emergency Medical cover for groups of up to 100 people on my own. I undertook training at the Defence Medical School to become an Operating Department Practitioner in1998 to 2000.I worked at MOD Hospital Unit Derriford in an ODP Anaesthetic Support role to various Surgical disciplines and deployed as part of Field Surgical Team to Sierra Leonne and Afghanistan this tour incorporated time on the Helicopter Medical Emergency Response Team. I have worked for the last three years in the NHS at Nevill Hall Hospital as an ODP in Anaesthetic support duties gaining more experience in Obstetric's. I am qualified as an Offshore Medic and am seeking further employment in this or the Remote Medic Industry to further my experience and to develop Health and Safety knowledge of this Industry.
I provide Locum Offshore Medic cover to Offshore Instalations,where I provide the Initial Emergency Medical/Primary care response,advice to the Instalations crew as required. I might be involved in some Occupational Health Screening of the crew and help with Helicopter Flight administration.
I provided skilled Anaesthetic Support for Anaesthetist's as an ODP for the following specialities General Surgery (Elective and Emergency) Orthopaedic's (Elective and Emergency) Gynaecology and Obstetrics,Emergency Department (Trauma calls only). Departmental Fire Warden I took an active role in initiating a review of the Departmental Fire & Escape proceedures.
I completed my initial entry training and then attended RN Hospital Haslar for Medical Assistant (MA) training. I then went on to complete varous assignments as an MA in Medical centres both afloat and ashore including Air stations and a RM Commando. During my Service I was promoted and completed my Service in the rank of Chief Petty Officer (Management Level). I had HR responsibillities in many of my posts and I had a period when I was a New entrant Instructor. I completed Operating Department Practitioner training at the Royal College of Defence Medicine Fort Blockhouse 1998-2000, practical placements were at University Hospital College Wales Cardiff. I worked at the RAF Centre Of Aviation Medicine 2007-2009 and gained Aircrew Health Knowledge as well as Hyperbaric and Hypobaric Chamber Operator experience. I have served all over the world,in all Climatic extremes looking after groups of Service personnel in a Primary Health capacity but also have deployed as part of a Surgical team to Sierria Leone and Afghanistan. The Afghanistan tour involved a period of two months on the Helicopter bourne Medical Emergency Response Team.
I worked as part of a team of Medics that made up a Medical section that deployed to provide Primary /Emergency care to groups of up to 600 troops. Deploying on occaision to look after groups of 100 Servicemen providing Primary/ Emergency care. During this period deployed to Canada and Kenya and Saudi Arabia(1990-91 Gulf War)
