Medical Assistant passionate about providing high-quality medical care in a culturally and linguistically competent manner to medically underserved communities. I have developed significant training and hands-on experience in healthcare roles that allow me to actively put these values into practice. I was recently accepted to Physician Assistant school and look forward to continuing my training to serve diverse patient populations. I have a longstanding history of supporting the SJ RotaCare Clinic patient care team in providing free medical services to those in the community with the greatest need—first as a medical Spanish interpreter and now as a medical assistant responsible for triaging patients and performing clinical tests and procedures to ensure quality care. In addition to this role, I’ve worked as a dermatology medical assistant, helping patients better understand their skin, hair, and nail conditions while also assisting with Mohs surgery for the treatment of skin cancer. Through these experiences, I continue to build the clinical foundation and patient-centered perspective that I will carry with me into my future career as a Physician Assistant.
•Triage patients for examination; obtain blood pressure, temperature, pulse oximetry, weight, and height •Assist in patient care by performing and documenting treatments/tests as directed by providers, including: ear irrigation, vision screening, suture removal, EKG, blood glucose, pregnancy test, hemogram, strep A throat swab, urine dipstick, U/A collection, urine culture, gonorrhea-chlamydia urine and swab •Perform finger sticks and blood pressure checks during outreach events for the uninsured while engaging individuals in health education by advising on maintaining normal glucose and blood pressure levels through diet, weight and exercise
Following the completion of 160 Medical Assisting Externship hours, I committed to returning back to school to complete physician assistant program prerequisites.
Medical Assistant Kaiser Externship - Head & Neck Surgery Department - 160 hours •Prepared patients for examination and treatment by checking patients in, discussing reason for the visit, and taking patient blood pressures •Prepared surgical trays for minor surgical procedures and set up endoscope for nasal endoscopies •Assisted medical providers with suctioning and holding skin retractors during surgical excision of cyst procedures •Processed surgical instruments for sterilization and maintained biopsy log
