I completed a work experience day at Riverstone Insurance company, where I got to talk to many business professionals within the Marketing team, Project Management team, Events Management team, and Claims department. I helped the marketing team organise a lunch event for the whole office, and received positive feedback for demonstrating a very proactive, efficient and well-organised approach, whilst maintaining composure under time pressure. I was a leader of the Diversity Society at my college and regularly hosted meetings where I presented to about 30 students and teachers about a range of topics around gender and sexuality. I aimed to start discussions and implement positive changes in my college by improving people’s knowledge and stressing the importance of these subjects.
I currently work at Camp Glide, which is a kids’ camp during school holidays and also an afterschool club in term time. I look after the children, prepare and serve snacks, and lead outdoor sports, craft activities and indoor games. I am often in charge of large groups of children, and have to ensure they all understand the instructions, set them up in to fair teams, and deal with conflicts that arise between them. This has enabled me to gain valuable teamwork, communication, creativity and quick problem-solving skills which I will take to any workplace or social environment.
I worked at Chipstead Golf club for approximately a year as a waitress and dishwasher. During this time, I developed strong customer service skills through taking orders, serving guests, and preparing drinks. The role enhanced my ability to work efficiently under pressure, and communicate effectively with a diverse range of people. It taught me the importance of teamwork and adaptability, which are valuable skills that I bring to any professional setting.
