Continuation of previous function. Physical relocation. Supported over a dozen sites in consulting for their ISO 50001 certification. Sites are located in Argentina, Brazil, China, Finland, Singapore, Spain, Thailand and Türkiye
As Senior Energy Manager, I am responsible for the daily operation of the global Energy Management System according to ISO 50001 in the company. In this small team we provide a variety of services related to ISO 50001, for example: defining corporate Energy Targets and providing the high level aggregated data supporting them. Knowledge transfer to- and training of Energy Teams at the different sites. Consulting sites during implementation of the Energy Management System, performing regular internal audits, and providing support during external audit processes. Within the small team, we do have a very extensive network on all hierarchies, from operational to top management. Here, I would be considered the technical expert. My expertise focusses strongly on the “data” aspect: Verification and Improvement of Energy Balances, support for Energy Performance Indicator (Energy KPI) or normalization procedures. During this time I was the project consultant for the implementation of an Energy Management System at different international sites.
Primary assignments consisted of overseeing the continuous, uninterrupted supply and production of utilities at the Antwerp site, including a waste water treatment. Thereby supporting, and providing substitution, for both Plant Manager and Production Chef in their daily responsibilities. The plant consists of approximately 50 employees, half of them are shift operators. Operational responsibility covered steam production with CHP units and conventional boilers, condensate polishing, water distribution and conditioning, cooling towers and the distribution of industrial gases like natural gas, nitrogen and hydrogen. One of the more satisfactory job aspects involved analysing data loggers, investigate production issues and extracting large amounts of data in search for process optimization. The results were presented in a simple overview employing statistical techniques based on Six Sigma methodologies. Being the plant assistant manager for several years, allowed me to cover a whole range of different topics, including project manager for optimization projects, safety and ESHQE-related topics, implementation of the ISO 50001 standard at the Antwerp site. Eventually I became the central person within the department to know and understand the site energy dynamics. Working in this central department allowed me to have plenty of opportunities to interact with people from different fields and backgrounds, both internal and external to the company.
