I love problems. Whether it's a bypass for an air filter, a lid that needs to enter a pressure chamber or the suspension of a floating desk. As long as there is some sketching and tinkering. As long as something is made. I am independent, but like working together. I am eager to take some responsibility in order to stay on edge. I like to engage with multiple disciplinaries and believe in clear communication. But in the first place I have appetite.

My responsibilities at Verhaert range from Concept design to detailed mechanical design. Every project at Verhaert begins with a customer with a problem that needs to be solved. This problem is broken down to its very essence in order to start digging for possible solutions. The concept phase has begun. During this phase solutions are searched in all corners of my brain, in patents, in the brains of my colleagues during brainstorms and in raw physics and science. This results in a pile of solutions which can be combined to form integrated concepts. These concepts find their way to the customer via sketches, early mock-ups and CAD models in fancy presentations. Ok. What's next? If the concepts meet the customer’s desires and his problem seems to be solved, we enter the detailed mechanical design phase. Time to bring these concepts to life using CAD software, 3D printing, milling, mock-up testing and coffee drinking. Once our concepts start to turn into beta-products, catalogues of materials, tables of tolerances and system engineers come in handy. Excessive team efforts result in tested, appreciated and beautiful products. In short: I look for new solutions and implement them in integrated designs that meet the customers specifications in a methodological fashion, together with a bunch of enjoyable colleagues.
As a young and confused product designer, I got the chance at Verhaert to explore the full spectrum of my studies in order to find a direction for my career. Two weeks I worked for Designlab. This lab focusses on human driven design. I prepared workshops, drew clarifying drawings to explain abstract matters and brainstormed for strategic decisions. Two more weeks I worked for Mechlab. This lab focusses on technical driven design. I started with a working prototype and worked towards a design for mass production. This exercise featured production techniques and design. As it turns out, I like the latter most.
As a young and confused product designer, I also got the chance at Studio Dott to explore part of the spectrum of my studies to find a direction for my career. I started working at the fuzzy front end of innovation. exploring possible directions for a company to innovate. This research driven project resulted in an overview of the status quo of the market and the possibilities still left unturned. Next I was up for some user manual making and a promotional presentation. I left with more professional experience than ever and a hunger for more.
