Risking your GPA to embrace your passion is outrageous. This was the decision I had to make back in 2017 — do I risk the comforts of certainty to entertain my dreams of being an esports player? I seized upon the opportunity of competition, resulting in a qualification to my first offline event: Rainbow Six Siege ESL APAC Pro League (Sydney). This was the start of a journey that shaped most of the person I am today. The next two years were filled with adversity, always a small mistake from reaching the international stage. It was only in 2019 that I experienced my first breakthrough. A taste of esports success by qualifying for my first international event in Tokoname, where my team secured a 3rd-4th placing. Then came 2020, when I signed my first professional contract with a Spanish organisation: Giants Gaming. However, being a Singaporean, I was enlisted only days after into the Singapore Police Force for my mandatory National Service. That would have cut my esports journey short if not for my supportive superiors. My superiors worked cooperatively with the Singapore Esports Association, and the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, to help me secure approval from the Singapore Government for me to compete professionally, concurrent with my National Service commitments. A 5-year ride of sacrifice and dedication through competition ultimately came to an end. I’ve learned about life, traveled the world, and matured through esports. Although there were goals I didn’t achieve, it was definitely a player career I can be proud of. Late 2022 was when I made the decision of transitioning from competitive play to esports management. Today, working in esports is not just a career, it's a dream I don't plan on waking up from.
