About

I am a technical manager, communicator, mentor & facilitator. My current role involves leading a medium size team of estimators, engineers & graduates to seamlessly & efficiently deliver accurate & thorough client proposals, technical designs & engineering management. I strive to operate a high-performing team through close mentoring, personal empowerment and clear, regular, open communication. I started my career at the ripe age of 16, as a student through an industry partnership scholarship with Beca. Initially working in the field of Electrical & Controls Engineering, with further expansion into Medium Voltage Power Systems Engineering, and attaining degree-level qualifications in Mathematics & Computer Science, alongside professional certifications in Electrical Engineering specialties. My engineering work experience has covered: - 4 yrs design & engineering management experience. (Team Management, Risk Assessment, Risk Management, Quality Control, Concept Development) - 4 yrs contractor-side project engineering/design management experience (Electrical Building Services, Infrastructure, Rail, EV Charging, Medium Voltage) - 4 yrs client-side site-based project engineering/commissioning EPCM experience (Industrial Electrical & Controls, Mining & Metals, Infrastructure) - 5 yrs consultancy design experience (Industrial Electrical & Controls & Multidisciplinary Projects) My biggest strength is in bringing a great degree of practicality, rationality & goal-focussed direction to my work. I entered the industry through an industry partnership scholarship with Beca, initially studying and working concurrently before being offered a full-time role with Beca. As a result, my engineering experience has been strongly developed through mentor-ship & hands-on experience and has gained both technical depth and broad base.

  • Electrical Engineering Technician at Beca
    Dec 2007 - Aug 2017 · 9 yrs 9 mos

I started with Beca in December of 2007 while I was still a student at high school. I received this opportunity through an industry partnership scholarship program known as First Foundation. In parallel to this exposure to the industry, I began an engineering degree in 2009 which due to personal family circumstances I suspended after the first year and was offered to continue at Beca full-time. Over the next nearly ten years at Beca, I gained hands on experience with electrical, instrumentation & control systems design & implementation. With my lack of degree specialisation, I was broad exposure to all aspects of these disciplines. The hands-on design experience gained developed my engineering skills to a similar level of a graduate, supported by mentorship by senior engineers and self-study. Some key projects, duties & experiences during this period include: * Mangere Waste Water Treatment Plant Upgrade - Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls System Design * Taupo Water Treatment Plant - Electrical & Instrumentation Design * Norske Skog Boyer Paper Mill Conversion - Electrical & Instrumentation Design In 2015 I began a chain of site based secondments with New Zealand Steel (Glenbrook & Taharoa sites), the Well-Connected Alliance (Waterview Tunnel) and Oji Fibre Solutions (Kawerau Mill).
