About

My vocation in nursing was inspired during my senior year of high school, leading me to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Portland, Oregon, supported by an Air Force ROTC nursing scholarship. I began my Air Force nursing career at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. In 1998, I earned a Master of Science in Nursing as an Adult/Gerontological Nurse Practitioner with an Educator Role from The University of Texas at Arlington, and in 2013, I completed a PhD in Nursing at The University of Texas at Tyler. In January 2007, I joined the faculty at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, where I taught until my retirement in May 2024. My teaching experience encompasses all levels of nursing education, including LVN to BSN, RN to BSN, BSN, and MSN programs. I have delivered courses in face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online formats, and am well-versed in simulation education. Throughout my career, I have been dedicated to imparting both the art and science of nursing. While my clinical background is rooted in gerontology, I have taught a diverse range of subjects, including pharmacology, research, nursing education, and nursing administration. My commitment to excellence has been recognized through several honors, including the O.A. Grant Excellence in Teaching Award (2023), the Certificate in Effective College Instruction from the Association of College and University Educators and the American Council on Education (2020), and the Faculty Excellence in Scholarship Award from Tarleton State University’s College of Health Science and Human Services (2018). In 2011, I was selected to participate in the Sigma Theta Tau International Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy. Although I have retired from full-time academia, I remain passionate about nursing education and am seeking a fully online position in nursing education.
