I am a software engineer. But I was in the field of accounting many years ago. Thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic, I was able to do a mid-career switch through the Technology in Finance Immersion Program (TFIP) by the Institute of Banking and Finance (IBF). Well, if you’re wondering what is this TFIP program, you’re not alone. Quick, do a google search. If you’re not into big tech, you can try DuckDuckGo. It is a program that helps people who wants to make a career switch to one of the in-demand jobs in the Singapore Financial sector. So, the Coronavirus pandemic is not all bad. When life throws you lemons, let’s make lemonade. As a software engineer with age, it can be hard keeping up with technology. I still remember the days when I only know JavaScript and have to migrate a Java Spring application to a Java Spring Boot application. Easy if you have the knowledge, but climbing Mount Everest if you don’t. The days of struggling and “trial-and-error” really builds a person’s character. So, other than gaining the technical knowledge of Front-end development and Back-end development (commonly called full-stack development), many other soft skills were acquired. How to be persistent, how to work in a team. How to ask people for help, how to help others. Overall, the “training” helps build a person into a wonderful team player with the required technical knowledge. Oh.. and it is important to mention the training provider. If you have not guessed yet, yes, it is UBS. UBS does have great talent development programs. Do have a look.
