Provide leadership to the PTD Maintenance Team/Contractors and manage the day-to-day maintenance work in assigned areas and ensuring that quality, timely and efficient repairs are made to equipment that improves reliability and increases process uptime.
Responsible for leading and managing a maintenance crew of approximately forty-five employees at Kankakee plant. Coordinate maintenance resources to service six operational lines and a distribution center over three shifts.
Oversaw all aspects of Critical Utilities including HVAC and Purified Water Systems, and Compressed Gases. Managed $16M operating budget, 10 supervisors, 3 engineers, 35 technicians, and maintenance crew, including Bulk Utilities and Critical Utilities Project Teams. Coordinated closely with all departments to address any issues in timely manner. • Led as main point of contact for regulatory audits with questions relating to Critical Utilities. No major observations during multiple annual audits. • Evaluated preparation and management of all Tier level projects relating to Critical Utilities and equipment, verifying all preventative maintenance procedures were accurate and in place. • Completed twice-yearly plant shutdown activities per schedule, ensuring manufacturing was not disrupted. • Directed new clean utility systems FAT, installation, startup, commissioning, and qualification, correcting several design issues during project startup, including automation, piping, and electrical systems. • Minimized downtime for all support equipment and utilities, eliminating product from expiring and potential loss of profit. • Hired staff to implement new 24/7 supervisor coverage, creating cohesive team through open lines of communication, modeling how to work together, and providing clear opportunities for growth and development. • Planned implementation with Human Resources of new department: Bulk Utilities, staffing, training, and setting up operations. • Collaborated closely with other departments on various CapEx projects, providing adequate technical resources and meeting utility needs.
Served as hands-on Maintenance Supervisor with over 20 mechanics, including all scheduling of man hours, overtime, and daily workload. • Turned around underperforming preventative maintenance program by bringing overdue PMs up to date and maintaining manageable workload by streamlining activities. • Created more team-oriented culture, improving department morale.
Managed Critical Utilities, Primary Utilities, and HVAC Systems at different times. Included HVAC, Water for Injection (WFI) and Motive Power encompassing all power generation, boilers, ammonia refrigeration system, and compressed air. Led team as Utility Supervisor with over 30 technicians and 5 maintenance mechanics in 3 groups working 3 shifts, 7 days a week schedule. Scheduled man hours, overtime, and daily workload. • Troubleshot, evaluated, and helped direct reports and maintenance staff make needed repairs / installation of equipment. • Received bids and hired contractors for various installation and repair work. Implemented and oversaw annual service agreements of systems such as fire alarm, co-generation, fire sprinkler, air compressors and dryers, all diesel equipment, Trane ice chiller, vapor compression stills, and vibration analysis. • Developed, maintained, and followed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), allowing organization to maintain compliance with Food and Drug Administration. Ensured direct reports were trained and followed SOPs. • Implemented preventative maintenance program for HVAC systems controls (over 150 different units) and all associated devices, reducing downtime significantly. • Designed and assisted in many system installations, overseeing all mechanical, electrical, pipefitting, insulation and control work, including equipment qualification process. • Led several high dollar capital and expense projects, including installing 400-ton Trane chiller with ice banks to supplement plant glycol system, compressed air dryer head replacement, cooling tower refurbishment, and mechanical area floor sealing with leak detection system to eliminate leaking into manufacturing area below. • Completed several extensive upgrades to facility management system, including upgrade of old pneumatic systems to direct digital control, updating software to latest revisions, and converting all ARCnet system to ARCnet / Ethernet system.
