New to teaching profession in August 2014. Extensive background as a journalist and public relations practitioner, including 22 years as a reporter, copy editor, page designer and newsroom manager with five newspapers. Also was a contributing writer and photographer for three trail guides published by Colorado Mountain Club Press and served in editing roles for two of those. Specialties: Experienced in PC and Macintosh platforms. Proficient in Microsoft Office, Quark, Outlook, Quicken and Internet applications. Basic skills in Adobe and database applications. Demonstrated ability to learn and implement new computer systems and technology. Coursework in designing World Wide Web pages through Colorado State University Adult Learning Program.
Taught English language arts, math, science, and social studies to fifth-graders (2 years) and third-graders (5 years) in public school system.
Performed a variety of editing functions, including all levels of staff copy, wire, copy editing and page design on news, Arts & Entertainment, Health & Fitness, Good Earth and Business sections. Planned coverage and content of weekly Outdoors and biweekly Travel sections. Assisted in supervising copy desk.
Senior editor for one in series of local hiking guidebooks published by Colorado Mountain Club. This is the third book in the series that I've worked on. I've been a contributing writer and photographer for all three books and assumed more editing responsibilities on the second and third. Book published in April 2014.
