Executive-level position reporting to the Chief Financial Officer. Responsible for worldwide tax planning and strategy, and day-to-day supervision of the company’s tax department. Heavily involved in the design and implementation of transactional tax planning, including acquisitions/divestitures, internal restructurings, financing, and cash deployment and repatriation. Responsible for managing and mentoring six member tax department based in the US, and oversight of foreign office accounting personnel with tax responsibilities.

Initially hired to implement a global tax provision process to remediate a pre-existing material weakness in income tax accounting. Led a team of three tax professionals to tax account for approximately 200 US and foreign legal entities. Additional responsibilities included US GAAP and tax research, tax department administration, and various special projects including acquisitions and divestitures. Major accomplishments included: - Remediated pre-existing material weakness in tax accounting. - Implemented an integrated tax provision system linking Hyperion Financial Management database with an Excel based provision module. The module streamlined the flow of data, increased data integrity, and reduced errors and time-to-close. - Managed tax accounting for several significant acquisitions, as well as the disposition of the company's mining segment and Atlas businesses (sales price of approximately $1.3 billion). - Two-time winner of Chairman's Award for Financial Excellence.
Managed the federal, state and foreign tax compliance functions for the world's largest air cargo outsourcer. Responsible for various tax planning projects and the development and implementation of procedural improvements to the compliance process. Major accomplishments included: - Prepared ASC 740 disclosures for quarterly and annual financial statements filed with the SEC. - Appealed property tax assessments in multiple jurisdictions, resulting in significant tax savings. - Prepared consolidated income tax returns for Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc. and its 10 subsidiaries. - Managed the implementation of tax compliance software.
