The Yin Yang Center, designed as a self-sufficient solar energy building, is a monumental (38.000 sq.ft) wellness center that integrates a full spa in its Yin area, and a Taï Chi and holistic practices space in the Yang area. The twelve pairs of glue laminated timber forming the structure represent : the hourly path of the sun along the east-west axis of the Center, acupuncture's twelve principal energy-distributing vessel meridians, and twelve specific hexagrams of the I-Ching (symbolizing the relevant rise of the Yin in the Yang hemisphere, and that of the Yang in the Yin). Evolving around itself in perfect harmony with the landscape, it was conceived upon the traditional Chinese cosmogony (Taoist philosophy, Yin Yang principles, the five elements) and its derivatives : The I-Ching, holistic medicine, acupuncture and Taï Chi.
