About

Since the early 80's JLG has used a variety of practices for painting, print, sculpture, video, installation and has developed industrial partnerships (Canon, Formica, Gerflor,...) to explore the complex relationship between Art and Life. His work is at the crossroads of art, design, architecture and communication. JLG's uniqueness is that on one hand he tries to define his own tools while investing in new media or materials : photocopy, laminate, PVC and on the other hand, he develops different concepts: TAO, MODUL'ART, C.C.A.O. to invest the space. Adept at the appropriation of objects or buildings, familiar with diversion. The notion "In Situ" is a recurring theme in his work. JLG is also interested in the perennial dimension of art. His willingness to surpass the painting functions primarily on a change of scale with the consideration of the wall as the framework to achieve a choice of material specific to the building. His post-minimal works, often in the form of stacks, are similar to sculptures and often close with Arte Povera. The work MODUL'ART® with GERFLOR’s partnership was the subject of a solo exhibition at IAC, Villeurbanne in 1994, has been included in public collections such as: City of Lyon, FRAC-RA, FNAC (Paris). Based in Brussels since 1996, JLG see the city as a "vast tableau” which offers questions and proposes an alternative vision. Indeed: "Mosaic Multicolor" Brussels, 1999 "True-false crosswalk", Brussels, 2000. In 2004, JLG has designed 'Beneflux.eu' and directed four editions during the "Urban Light Trail". As a curator, JLG selected and invited many belgian and international artists around the theme of Light and created different exhibitions: “PASS Frameries”, “Ferme du Buisson de Marne-la-Vallée” or “Ecole des Beaux Arts” in Lyon. In 2010 MODUL'ART® selected at MUKHA Antwerp for CANVAS COLLECTIE was presented at BOZAR, Brussels ( Gerflor’s partnership). Today, eager to continue his work and to participate in the development of his plastic and photography.
