As Chief Engineer I'm responsible for the total vehicle concept and architecture of our next generation BMW Luxury Class SAV-Family. Together with a cross-functional team of engineers, designers, product managers, sourcing & production specialists we develop the future best-in-class Luxury SAV experience including the latest GEN6 electric drive train and battery-technology. Until mid of 2023 as Head of Development Software & Hardware of our Central Control Unit HV-Charging & Driving BEV I and my team of 20 engineers are responsible for bringing best in class software (functions, integration, FuSa/ISO26262) and hardware (mechanics, power electronics) together with our Tier 1 partners to the road for all GEN5 battery electric vehicles. The main features of the Central Control Unit (CCU) as a highly integrated Module are high-voltage onboard AC/DC charging, DC/DC converting and the ECU for control of powertrain and selected body functions. Until mid of 2021 as Head of Development HV-Batteries for BEV / PHEV I and my team was responsible for the component lead engineering of one of the success critical key-components to drive the future transformation into an all-electric age. The scope of development enclosed series development (e.g. MINI BEV, BMW iX3, i4, iNext, 3-/5-/7-/X1-/X3-/X5-Series PHEV) and project lead in early phase projects (incl. pre-development NextGen HV-Batteries/Modules/Cells). Until late 2019 as project leader strategy phase of future BMW Electric Vehicle Architectures I was responsible for the strategic alignment and fit of the product concept including industrialization, the project organization and decision-roadmap and the preparation of decision memos to the board of directors. As an “agile leader” and intrapreneur with indirect lead of a team of about 50 employees I was also in charge for introducing an agile mindset and agile working methods into the early phase of BMW’s hardware product engineering lifecycle to get much faster, more flexible and even more innovative.
