Words are my passion. Currently, I am serving as a caretaker, however I am available to work remotely on assignments involving writing, proofreading, copy editing and similar tasks. I have nearly 15 combined years of experience using the aforementioned skills to communicate to the general public and to specialized audiences on behalf of my employers. Some people might feel that tasks such as proofreading can be simply handled by apps and programs. Unfortunately, the limitations of these services have been laid bare throughout the world of communications. It may be cheaper, but when a news article or a multinational company's press release contains misspelled words, poor grammar or incorrectly uses a homophone in place of the intended word (such as "you're" rather than "your"), it looks unprofessional and does not benefit their reputation and brand. Communication is the cornerstone of all business and clear unambiguous messaging is vital to engaging the audience. This is even truer in the age of social media as an organization's marketing gaffe can quickly go viral and detract from all the effort and resources invested in establishing and reinforcing the desired public perception of that institution. Furthermore, computer programs are not equipped to judge the suitability of presentation. While working for a university department it was my responsibility to manage the creation of the promotional materials for that department's summer course offerings. That year the college had put out a template that we were required to use for our course fliers. The college was aiming for an upbeat and kitschy appearance complete with a smiling sun with sunglasses giving a thumbs up. This was not an appropriate match for a number of our department's classes which included topics like euthanasia and human rights abuses. I took this matter to the affected faculty and we successfully lobbied for a different promotional template for our department. Together with my proficiency with the written word and related graphics, my ability to quickly learn new technology and procedures has enabled me to adapt to new systems and duties. As a teammate and employee I pride myself on being cooperative, professional and open-minded. One of the most rewarding aspects of my work experience has been interacting with people from diverse backgrounds; I am comfortable working with all manner of individuals. Please contact me if you have any questions. I look forward to hearing from you. Best wishes to you and to yours! James Christian Meares
