Evol1-IP, a wholly owned subsidiary of Colotivity®, is an Intellectual Property Company focused on hardware/software technologies that better support storage and compute functions specific to 5G and Edge Computing. Our first Patent (US 10,108,560 B1, dated October 23, 2018) is technology that leverages Ethernet to enable extensibility of discrete components (e.g., memory, storage, cache [hardware- or software-based], network/fabric, capacity, etc.) of hyper-converged infrastructure. These embodiments allow for external components to appear as direct-attached components, reducing the hardware limitations of hyper-converged solutions. Utilizing embodiments of the technology recited in the pending claims allows administrators to overcome shortcomings of the current hyper-converged solutions. For example, the technology eliminates the “I/O blender” issue. I/O operation is limited by the queue depth of the storage controllers within the host. With current hyper-converged solutions, an entire new host is required in order to increase the queue depth of the infrastructure. With the technology disclosed in Verge-IP’s application, the queue depth of a host can be extended by N controllers, without the need for an entire new host. This increases resource utilization while reducing cost.
