I try to make law work for a more just, sustainable, inclusive and peaceful world and a healthy planet for present and future generations of all life. My law firm JustLaw, Corporate Law and Human Rights, focuses on (leadership) on law, human rights (in relation to environment, water, health and climate change), business and sustainable development. Clients range from politicians, governments, human rights institutions and businesses to NGOs, which I support on strategy and campaigns and in court cases. Renowned keynote speaker. Signatory partner for the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2015, Dutch National program. Chair of the boards of Stand Up For Your Rights, The Crowd Versus and Duurzame Week and board member of other NGOs, like FossilFree NL. I've been a special guest lecturer on human rights at several universities and UN bodies, including UNESCO and UNITAR, for over a decade. Previously I worked as in-house lawyer and legal counsel at Greenpeace International and before that as senior associate for commercial law firms. Author of several publications on human rights law and sustainable development and a popular speaker on these subjects, also in relation to Corporate Social Responsibility. My passion for nature - and humanity being reconnected to and balances with nature - shows from my presidency of the Dutch National Park Dunes of Texel and the initiatives I support in The Netherlands to have natural areas, starting with the Waddensea, acknowledged as separate legal entities, which would be the first example of 'rights of nature' in The Netherlands. Involved as advisor to multiple campaigns and initiatives on human rights and a healthy environment and on institutionalising the interests and rights of Future Generations. Chair of the Dutch Worldconnectors working group "Future Generations", 'acting' Dutch Ombudsperson for Future Generations and Vice Chair of the global Network of Institutions for Future Generations.
