Janez Podobnik has vast experience of more than 20 years of work in political institutions on a local, national, and international level. He started his career path as a doctor and later dedicated his time to Slovenian and European politics. Nowadays, he operates as a business developer and entrepreneur. ECPD International Institute for Sustainable Development, Urban Planning and Environmental Studies (The Institute) is part of The European Center for Peace and Development (ECPD). The Center was established in 1985 as a Regional Center of the UN University for Peace. Slovenian website: http://ecpd.si/ The Institute's activities: 1. Coordinating interdisciplinary research projects and scientific studies on sustainable development, renewable sources of energy, environment protection, urbanism, regional development, multicultural development, and inter-ethnic relations. 2. Introducing studies leading to new specialist postgraduate training in management, European and business law, finance, and diplomacy in connection with issues of sustainable development. 3. Organizing professional and expert science symposiums, round tables, and seminars from the fields of environment, environmental science, and urban planning. 4. Publishing science anthologies and other publications from the field of the Institute’s activities. 5. Targeting and persuading policymakers and stakeholders on different levels from governments, businesses, and NGOs. Past Projects: 1. Cooperation on international conferences focused on sustainable management of river systems and climate change (Teaching Climate Change and the United Nations System; ICAM-RBM International Conference - sustainable management of European river basins, a conference on sustainable development in the Sava/Danube river basin, Black Sea and the Mediterranean. 2. Events regarding sustainable development in transport, SMEs, tourism (Sava River and SMEs, Cycling Lanes along Sava River connecting Ljubljana, Zagreb, and Belgrade). 3. Co-working on international consortiums that apply to Slovene projects regarding implementation of the new EU Danube Region Strategy. 4. Offering support to SBRA in Brussels. 5. I offer the following expertise: 1. Finding business opportunities and establishing business partners for Slovenian SMEs (especially family-owned companies) in SEE countries such as Serbia, Albania, Macedonia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Romania, Bulgaria, etc. 2. Consulting on business projects with Arab countries (focus on Gulf states - Kuwait, Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia - and also Libya) especially in health tourism and other key business sectors between Central Europe and these states. I work also via the Slovenian-Kuwait Economic Chamber. 3. Offering consulting to Slovenian and other companies from the region in their entry to Indian Market, taking into account rich knowledge from the time of chairmanship of ICPE. 4. Offering consulting to Slovenian companies in their entry to some markets in Africa (focus on Nigeria, Ghana, Angola, South Africa, etc.). 5. Via leading ICIE Slovenia and via our partners in Russia, Kazakhstan, and other CIS countries I offer consulting to Slovenia companies in their markets. 6. Due to good knowledge of institutions of European Union I can be of valuable help when forming development and other consortia when acquiring EU funds. In all mentioned activities I find credible business integrators in these countries as reliable counterparts and am open to create new opportunities and connections.
Chairman of Association of Industrialists and Enterpreneurs of Slovenia (ICIE Slovenia) ICIE Slovenia (www.icie.si) is an expert association which supports search for business partners in different countries that can offer good business practices and forge new business links. ICIE Slovenia aims to organize each year at least two visits abroad at other partner associations. Main points of contact that ICIE Slovenia provides are: Russia and FSU region countries; SEE countries; India; UK, and some other Wester European countries. ICIE Slovenia is affiliated with the International Congress of Industrialists and Enterpreneurs Moscow. It was accepted in the Congress as a Full Member in February 2012.
