To assess the performance of universities in research and to encourage world-class research. Since 1993, the UGC has conducted five RAEs. The RAE 2020 is an expert review exercise to assess universities’ submissions in terms of research outputs, impact and environment. The exercise produces quality profiles of the eight UGC-funded universities, using international benchmarks to delineate their areas of relative strengths and give insights on areas and opportunities for development. Results of the RAE 2020 will also be used to assist the UGC in the allocation of research funding to universities.
