Provide nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia, including general, MAC, and regional anesthesia for a leading academic health system dedicated to improving the health of the people and diverse communities they serve. • Assist pediatric and adult patients coming out of anesthesia in the recovery room following completion of surgery, helping them stabilize and prepare for transfer to other units of the hospital or for discharge for out-patient procedures. • Update patients and their family members on patient status during recovery from a wide variety of surgical populations including general surgery, orthopedics, ENT, endoscopy, gynecology, plastics, urology, and neurology. • Take vital signs and ensure the patient is comfortable; provide education through all phases of recovery progress; help patients understand their pain medications and how to care for themselves. • Provide initial and ongoing assessment of respiratory status, airway patency, pain management, hemodynamics and surgery specific assessment; collaborate with interdisciplinary team to ensure quality patient outcome post-operatively.
Provided direct nursing care in accordance with established protocols, and monitored patient care plans at one of the nation’s leading hospitals and the region’s only academic hospital providing the full spectrum of patient care. • Served as primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care; cross trained to Cardiovascular Pre-Post Unit and for ICU immersion during the COVD-19 Pandemic; interacted well with patients, families, and nursing staff. • Credentialed to UEXCEL Level III RN in 2018 -Implementation of Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit to Floor Bedside Report Transfer Process; nominated for the Nightingale Award through the Colorado Nurses Foundation in 2019. • Advocated for patients’ rights, and educated patients and their families on disease processes, medical-surgical procedures and other aspects of therapeutic regimens including medication and pain management techniques. • Served as Relief Charge Nurse and collaborated effectively with an interdisciplinary team of medical and health care professionals comprised of physician, nurse manager, dietician, social worker, case manager, and physical therapist. • Served as Preceptor to new graduate student and newly hired experienced nurses on the unit.
