Dr. James Yang is the CEO and Founder of GuardStrike, an autonomy design automation (ADA) company specialized in tool chains for autonomous systems. Its oasis simulation platform has been adopted by several auto companies for SIL, HIL and VIL testing. Dr. Yang used to be a Professor of Computer Science at Western Michigan University and a visiting professor at the University of Michigan. As an inventor of 10 patents and author of more than 100 scientific papers (many of which appeared at prestigious conferences and journals such as FSE, ICSE, ASE, ISSTA, TSE, CAV, Micro and ISCA), James is a leading innovator and expert in software testing, formal verification and validation, Artificial Intelligence, and cybersecurity. He has also won the ACM SIGSOFT Distinguished Paper Award and the ACM TODAES Best Journal Paper Award. He has been selected to be a panelist of the Natioanl Science Foundation, the NASA Postdoctoral Fund, and the US Department of Energy's Startup Technology Enterprise Fund. Dr. Yang is the co-chair of the IEEE Technical Committee on Electric and Autonomous Vehicles, vice-chair of the IEEE Standard Association Working Group on Autonomous Vehicles. He also served as the general chair of the 12th IEEE International Software Testing and Validation Conference (ICST) in 2019. James holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master's Degree in Software Testing and Verification from Rice University, and a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Science and Technology in China.
