I'm a contribution and distribution broadcast engineer specialising in the design, deployment, and operation of large-scale IP and satellite infrastructure for major live global sporting events. My core passion is IP video transmission, and I work across the full modern broadcast chain. I've been a part of contribution and distribution at serious scale - single-event deployments running up to 256 encodes, 1,200+ 2022-2 endpoints, and 640+ SRT endpoints. I pair that broadcast knowledge with software and automation, building custom monitoring and tooling in Python, Node.js, and React that help turn days of manual configuration into hours. I also genuinely enjoy field work and have extensive experience handling the environmental and logistical challenges that come with live events anywhere in the world. Before focusing on IP focussed Major Events, I spent years in satellite news gathering (SNG) - uplink operation, satellite acquisition and line-up, and live transmission of news and sport. And before broadcast, I came from a technical IT consulting and engineering background, designing and building IT infrastructure for large educational institutions and SMEs.
Delivers end-to-end broadcast and IP infrastructure for large live sporting events - FIFA World Cup, Olympic and Commonwealth Games, Rugby World Cup, tennis Grand Slams etc. I design, deploy, and run the contribution and distribution systems that carry live vision and audio from venue to international rights holders, and I build the monitoring and automation tooling that keeps it visible on air.
Provided satellite news gathering (SNG) and broadcast transmission services to major Australian and International broadcasters, delivering live and breaking news from the field under tight deadlines and in demanding conditions. The role covered the full SNG workflow - from positioning the truck and acquiring the satellite to handing clean vision and audio back to the network.
